The Russian State Archive of Literature and Art is one of Russia's largest archive collections. This CD-ROM edition describes 2,902 record groups containing almost 1.5 million individual documents; 905,000 entries originate from the time before 1915. The CD-ROM also contains the Guide to the 'Special Department' to which access had previously been denied for political reasons. Writers, artists, actors, dramatists, musicians, film makers and other people involved in cultural life, as well as those in state institutions and social organizations in the cultural domain from the 18th to the 20th century are included. In addition to the textual data, the user will also find more than 500 rare and largely unpublished photographs and engravings of people from the 19th and 20th century right up to the present day. An easy-to-operate trilingual user interface allows effortless access to the archive data without the user needing to be proficient in Russian.
