A peregrine falcon, Frightful struggles to survive without the help of her human caretaker, Sam. Her emotional bond compels her to remain in the North while all other birds instinctively migrate south, and she must survive the cold winter. While Sam has a hand in helping her, Frightful ultimately finds the courage to go it alone. After her human friend and caretaker, Sam Gribley, is forced to release her into the wild, Frightful struggles to survive on her own. However, when winter arrives her emotional bond with Sam compels her to remain in the North while all other birds instinctively migrate to the South. Surviving the cold with the aid of her former owner, Frightful eventually finds a mate, and come springtime she awaits the birth of her chicks. While Sam has a hand in looking after the bird during her nesting period, Frightful ultimately finds the courage to go it alone.
