Considered in Japan as the "black star" of the manga, Suehiro Maruo built since its beginnings in 1980 in the magazine GARO, a work which combines Japanese mythology and a certain Western culture of eroticism, which goes from the Marquis de Sade to surreal.
The narrative background, composed of short raw and sometimes poetically delirious dialogues, are framed in the image so as not to pollute the images where all the graphic virtuosity of Maruo is revealed. Its unique line, clear and refined line, its clever cutouts, confront us without encryption with the small monstrous people of its phantasmagories. Elegance is transgressive, which seems comical to a Japanese, summons buried monsters here. Crossing a fictional Styx, caught up in the incredible but frightening delight of his drawing, we can detect many literary, philosophical and artistic references which, while upsetting our senses, invite us to enjoy his unique universe, extremely perverse and yet close, but undeniably cathartic.
Q-saku is a centerpiece of this work, composed of short stories, one will appreciate the incredible richness of his imagination and the superb amalgam of his influences. The horror arises, perfectly orchestrated by the staging, in the heart of a coldly aesthetic atmosphere.
