The Treatment

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

‘A wonderful novel. Big ideas wrapped in a plot that moves like a freight train’ Stuart Turton

'Compelling and complex, but still emotionally charged and devastating' Helen Fields

'A Clockwork Orange for the modern cohort. A terrifying near future imagined perfectly' Imran Mahmood

The future of law enforcement has arrived, courtesy of private health contractor Janus Justice. Their ground-breaking ‘Offender Treatment Programme’ has been hailed as the most effective way of tackling crime yet.

As offenders move through the four-tiered system, their needs are dealt with, each tier more drastic in its methods:

Tier One: Low-risk crimes. Physical therapy encouraged

Tier Two: Trauma and addiction. Emotional and psychological reasons for offending are examined

Tier Three: Aversion therapy & moral punishment

Tier Four: Siberia, where all hope is lost

But Grace Gunnarsson, one of Janus’ most highly regarded rehabilitation psychiatrists, has uncovered a terrible flaw in the system, one that is allowing people to get away with murder...

‘A high-octane, spine-shivering thriller, in which neuropsychology, crime, ethics and justice are melded in a mind-stretching concoction’ Philippa East

The Treatment - opinie o książce

Well, that's what happened. Someone started healing the prisoners. Resocialization did not help, so other methods had to be used. Grace is a psychiatrist and is quite good at working with prisoners on Levels 1 and 2. Will she take up the challenge and accept a promotion to Level 3? What's going on at this level? The third level is highly controversial and quite dangerous. The aversive method is used here. Part of society believes that this therapy brutalizes criminals.

There is also level 4, this is for those terminal prisoners.

Is Janus Justice CEO Conrad Becker being denied? What will be the fate of our heroine, Grace?

Will therapies help with resocialization? Is Janus Justice covering up bad cases?

I also found a lot of opponents of these therapies here. I like the fact that the prisoners earn their own living in villages created especially for them. Do prisoners live in harmony there?

The author of this book has a very interesting imagination. I like her thinking. I quickly devoured this e-book. I couldn't stop reading. I really wanted to know what would happen to Grace and the prisoners on Level Three. I admit that those treatment methods are terrifying. I wonder how people can be seen after something like that. The next shock was Level Four. But you have to read about it yourself. I wouldn't want to go there for anything in the world.

What will Grace do to save her adoptive brother? Is it worth risking your life for him?

The end of the book is a real Armageddon of emotions. I stayed up all night for this book. There's so much going on here that I couldn't sleep.

 Quite a good psychological thriller.

Do treatment methods for Level 3 offenders have the desired effect? Or is it the other way around, and their desire to murder increases?

This book is perfect for all lovers of crime stories and thrillers.

 I recommend.
