Bill and Amanda are living in a semi-detached house, stuck in a depressing rut of boredom and disappointment, when Terry and Fiona – glamorous, successful and very much in love – move in next door. Despite their different outlooks on life, the couples befriend each other and life appears to improve for both pairs. But all is not what it seems, and their increasingly interconnected relationships are fated for tragedy.

Wow! Semi-Detached by Deborah Stone is a brilliant story. I read it with bated breath. I literally couldn't tear myself away from it. I saw a lot of twists and turns here. Some surprised me a lot. The ending is extraordinary. This is what I didn't expect. Big applause for the author. Deborah Stone touches on very important topics, including miscarriage, concealment, betrayal and violence against women. I like short and concise chapters. You can't get lost in this book. It's just very well written. I met three different characters here. The youngest of them is Clare. We meet her at a very important moment for her. She's going to her mom's for Christmas to introduce her new boyfriend, Jack. How will she react to him? With subsequent characters, we go back in time, to 1990. We meet Amanda, Bill, Fiona and Terry. While reading this novel, I didn't have the patience for one, or rather two of them. Bill is the type that should rot in prison for treating his wife like rubbish. I can't understand how he could live without any feelings. My heart broke reading what was happening with Amanda. Will the girl break free from this hell? Will she be submissive as usual? Or will she want to disappear from this world once and for all? I was very worried about this character. I was secretly hoping that he would get the hang of it and stand up to the tyrant. Terry acts differently, but also abuses his wife. Fiona lives in a gilded cage. It seems to have everything, yet it has nothing. Terry is such a cunning and swindler type. Fiona and Terry are Amanda and Bill's new neighbours. Is it good that they moved in next door to them? Will this be a blessing or a curse for Amanda? Will they be neighbours from hell? The content of "Semi-Detached" is a ready-made script for the perfect thriller film. The story keeps you hooked from start to finish and beyond. I'm still in shock and can't get over it. My advice to men: respect your wives. You don't want to be bastards like Bill and Terry, do you? Advice for women: don't marry men who don't respect you. Otherwise, you might end up like our heroes Amanda and Fiona. A good plot, great action and diverse characters make this novel a must-read. I wholeheartedly recommend "Semi-Detached" by Deborah Stone. Ps. A story like this makes it to my top list on August 5th.
