In 2019, Katie began keeping a journal of life with her husband Jim and his mental and physical decline at the hands of Parkinson's and dementia, which eventually caused him to sadly pass away in the August of 2020.
Providing a powerful sense of love and humanity to the more sombre themes of Where Are You? is the ever-potent affection with which Katie describes her husband even in the most loveless of times.
Theirs was a marriage based on friendship, humour, lust, passion and trust which spanned across 40 years, and Katie recalls many fond memories of the instances they shared as a couple.

James "Jim" Herdman was born in 1939. He grew up in Northern Ireland
His wife Cathy, who he calls Katie, is the love of his life. They had one son, whom they raised in Italy and London.
He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2015. He also suffered from dementia towards the end of his life. A nasty combination of diseases. He died on August 17, 2020.
His wife documented his illness in the form of a diary. It's full of pain, sadness, anger and disbelief. It's sad to watch a loved one turn into a stranger before our eyes. I am grateful to Cathy for sharing her experiences with us. Thank you for describing your and your husband's difficult moments. This story will touch even the hardest of hearts. There were some tears. Tears flow from helplessness and powerlessness.
Memorial starts on April 20, 2019.
I am appalled at how the NHS works in England. One 10-minute visit with a neurologist every 10 months. This is some mockery. Like Jimi, I love the film "Schindler's List".
Jim is very aggressive, this is a new symptom of the disease. He is a danger to himself and his loved ones.
Read how Katie dealt with her husband's illness and how Jim behaved. His behaviour in recent months has not been positive. I'm not surprised that the author went out of her way at times.
If you like books based on facts in the form of a diary, I encourage you to read "Where are you?".
Parkinson and dementia are a devilish combination that exhausts the patient and their loved ones. It was the first time I read such detailed memories.
I recommend this book only to adults.
