Abductions and murder are not what ex-DCI Luke Sackville expected when he left the police after tragedy struck his family.
Luke’s return to the workplace was meant to be a soft landing but when a woman vanishes after being accused of taking bribes, he is assigned a disparate team and tasked with tracking her down.
Their search becomes more urgent when her disappearance is linked to the death of a second woman. When a third goes missing the hunt becomes a race against time. Luke’s return to work presents him with the most challenging case of his career as the murder victims mount.
Murder and intrigue are peppered with humour in this fast-paced crime thriller set in and around the beautiful city of Bath in the southwest of England.
Taken to the Hills is the first in the Luke Sackville crime series. If you like a team you can root for then you’ll love this page-turner. Perfect for fans of JD Kirk, LJ Ross, JM Dalgleish and David J Gatward.

I love books like "Taken to the Hills". There is a mysterious disappearance, a murder and an excellent investigation. In all this there are plenty of twists and an interesting plot. I won't even mention the ending because it is unpredictable. I can honestly tell you that I didn't expect this turn of events. I love the endings of interesting books like this.
I got an interesting atmosphere here. You can safely be afraid because you don't know who you can trust. I felt sorry for some of the characters in this book.
Author S J Richards plays perfectly on the emotions of his readers. And that's the best part.
After such a novel, I will definitely become a fan of this author. I can honestly tell you that I can't wait for his next novel with detective Luke Sackville.
I liked the main character, ex-DCI Luke Sackville. I felt sorry for him for the loss of his wife. She raises three children alone, including twins. Add to all this a mean father. Currently looking for a job. Will he get a job, and will he be able to cope with it? You will learn all this while reading this book. I'll tell you one thing, he should go back to police work. From my observation, he would be perfect for this.
I also met other interesting and less interesting characters. However, two ladies deserve attention: Angie Johnson and Sam Chambers. Both ladies made a huge impression on me. What do they have in common? You will find out as you read.
I am delighted with the cover. There's something so dark and mysterious about it. Perfectly eye-catching.
To sum up: I wholeheartedly recommend this crime thriller. After reading "Taken to the hills" you will want more.
This book is worth your attention. Perfect for fans of crime stories and thrillers.
Congratulations to S J Richards on such an exceptional work.
