This one-volume encyclopedia comprises the four-volume International Encyclopedia of Sexuality (published 1997-2001), the decision being made for this format rather than publication of a fifth volume. Sixty in-depth articles (15 new; the others thoroughly revised -- with updated material clearly marked) discuss sexuality in as many countries. Following a uniform format to facilitate comparisons among countries (the index also helps with this), each article explores heterosexual, homosexual, and bisexual relationships of children, adolescents, and adults; gender diversity and transgender issues; unconventional sexual patterns; contraception; sexually transmitted diseases; sexual dysfunctions and therapies; issues for older and for physically and mentally challenged people; sex education; and religious and ethnic influences on sexuality. An international directory of sexological organizations completes the work. The efforts of 270 contributors were brought together by two editors who are themselves sexologists: Francoeur -- author of 25 books on the subject and editor-in-chief of The Complete Dictionary of Sexology, and Noonan, who produces the SexQuest.com website.
